Concept Explanation

Jaundice

Jaundice is a medical condition that causes a slight yellowing of the skin. A patient with jaundice looks a little yellow, a condition that's caused by excess pigmentation due to deficiencies in the liver or bile duct.

It is caused due to the accumulation of bilirubin in the blood and body's tissues. Bilirubin is an waste product that is generated when red blood cells get degenerated. It is then transproted to the liver through the blood stream where it is then combined with a digestive fluid called bile.

Preventive measures: Jaundice is related to liver function. It is essential that people maintain the health of this vital organ by eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and not consuming more than the recommended amounts of alcohol.

Control: Adequate rest is required for the patient to recover fast, sugarcane juice, radish with jaggery are recommended, fats should be avoided and protein taken within limits.
